Optimisations Lead

Reporting into the Director of Operations and Optimisations (O&O), they will continuous drive optimisation, stabilisation and performance initiatives and improvements to enable the achievement of our Digital Strategy.  Working in a new formed team, they will play a critical role in shaping and delivering our Digital Optimisation Strategy and active manage opportunities to continuous improve Tui’s leading strategic Group Platforms.  They will be motivated and an active manager of opportunities to reduce customer struggle, identify & remove bottlenecks and prioritise solutions to increase customer conversion.

  • Proven experience in an Operational or Managerial role with a strong analytical skill set. Experience as an IT Delivery Manager or Project beneficial but not essential
  • A strong background of managing development and test teams with a blended mix of onshore, nearshore and offshore resources
  • Ability to take a best-practice approach to agile software delivery within an overall waterfall programme management framework.
  • Demonstrate a blend of core technical understanding across the full technology stack, coupled with the ability to manage very senior stakeholders around Europe
  • Agile and waterfall delivery expertise
  • Previous development experience building on the AWS server-less technology stack along with hands on use of the AWS APIs would be highly advantageous.
  • Background in agile development process with a desire to move to full devops
  • Ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of management, adjusting behaviours and communication style where appropriate.
  • Strong influencing/negotiation skills with confidence to liaise with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
  • Someone with the ability to make decisions considering the commercial and customer impact.
  • A passionate individual with the ability to drive key priorities/performance improvements for benefit of the business and our customers.
  • Able to use planning tools such as Jira and Microsoft Project to ensure commitments made to overall milestones can be justified by current status of sprints and feature backlog.
  • Able to support QA managers in delivering best practice around automated functional testing, performance testing and penetration testing.
  • Comfortable working within an environment of ambiguity and high degree and complexity.
  • Potential to develop technical expertise, the successful applicant is expected to become a subject matter expert in tools/process and principals within a large Digital function.
  • Someone with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, demonstrating capability to deliver to agreed timelines.
  • Someone with strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to lead and coach team members.
  • Always remains focused on the most critical / impactful task to hand using all resources efficiently and effectively.
  • It is expected that the successful applicant should reach full proficiency in 6 months. Therefore, a hunger and a proven ability for learning is essential.
  • Lead a team of technical SMEs and business stakeholders to deliver platform improvements, stabilisation activities and small change (optimisations). This will include optimising:
    • Platform run costs (AWS spend, environment utilisation, optimal charging models)
    • End user system performance and bottlenecks
    • UX designs
    • Technical and business support processes
    • Small enhancements (not part of a wider projects)
  • Act as the delivery authority for our software engineering teams and provide technical leadership and management during the development, build, test and deployment phases, ensuring all engineering teams are working to best practice.
  • Create, own, prioritise and manage the optimisation backlog with product owners and technical teams using an agile methodology
  • Manage tech optimisation team (mix of internal and external employees) to create a high performing team
  • Drive platform improvements through improved end user performance, platform stability, reduced click times, user adoption & feedback
  • Chair and drive a performance forum of key stakeholders from around the business and IT to help support the current and future performance strategy.
  • Manage am optimisations backlog covering all digital channels by collaborating with key stakeholders from across the business.
  • Liaising with the Test Leads to agree testing requirements for optimisation changes and developments for BAU activities.
  • Delivery automation activities to remove all manual, repetitive and non-value add activities
  • Establish effective optimisation governance and reporting
  • Create and distribute optimisation reporting including performance data, KPI achievement, business benefits and end user outcomes. Create, maintain and continually review operational dashboards for all optimisation work.
